We’ve all seen the oval shaped make up brushes doing the rounds on Instagram. Promising a sleek and flawless finish with easier, more precise contouring. But is it really worth investing in them. Nearly every make up brand has their own brushes/ beauty sponges and I have my favorites. How many more do I need. That’s what I thought until I saw them in Superdrug… and they were on offer …
ok fine I will try them.
£35 buys you both the contouring and precision eye sets. With 3 brushes in each pack. The brushes look pretty dense so it should make a good brush. They come in a rose gold colour and i’m hopeful I have the secret to flawlessly applied make up in my hand.
Pretty light weight. All the weight is in the head of the brush. Which is made from the finest synthetic hair. They are so soft! The handles are flat with a little grip. I prefer make up brushes with a flat handle. A strange preference but it means they don’t roll off the side every time you put them down. I’m not sure about the neck on these brushes. They have a slight tilt which they say is to help with precision and they are flexible but i’m not sure if that just makes them feel a bit flimsy.
Face, Blush and Contour

£19.99
So I applied dotted foundation where needed on my face and used the larger brush.
Face: I have to say it was much better then I was expecting. I like the finish. No streaky brush marks, evenly blended and I think I used a little less product then I usually would.I also used this brush to blend in my contour. It blends out cream based makeup flawlessly.
Shape. I love this brush for applying colour corrector concealer. that’s all I’ve used it for. Its small enough to apply where I need it and like the face brush blends smoothly. So far I really like these 2 brushes.
Cheek. I didn’t like it for blusher. I do prefer a normal fluffy brush for blush and will go back to my trusty brush I’ve had for far to long to admit to. I also prefer a powder base blush. But I don’t think these brushes work as well on powder as they do cream make up. But like I said for cream based products so far they have been great.
I also tried this brush to apply a face mask and it goes on lovely no mess. The only down side is cleaning it after.
Precision Eye

eye, eyeliner and blend
So, im going to start with the eyeliner brush. My go to for eyeliner is usually a angled liner brush which has a much smaller, thinner brush head and a longer handle. This brush head is longer, thicker and is slightly curved. I found it a little difficult to get an even amount of product on the brush. I was getting more eyeliner on the top rounded part, but I get there and sweep on the eyeliner starting from the edge of my lower lash line and create the flick. then I line from the flick towards the center of my top lash line. First application with this brush and not a complete disaster. I will be honest. The flick is not as neat or sharp as I would like. It was a little difficult to get into the corner of my eye. but, the eyeliner its self went on pretty smooth. I think if you use tape to get a more precise and sharper flick and you like a thick liner line you shouldn’t have any problems.I much preferred this brush to apply concealer after lipstick, to define your lip shape and tidy up any lipstick/liner. but as for applying liner with it I think I will stick to my normal brush. This could also make a good contour brush for sides of your nose, you can be precise with it.
Blend: I didn’t like this brush to blend. I thought it was good to apply product to the crease but it didn’t seem to blend very well, I felt like it was just pulling my skin. unfortunately I don’t know what else to say about it. It will go in the draw and no doubt end up in the pile of brushes that I’ve not found a use for.
Eye Again I didn’t love this brush. The synthetic brush is designed to be used with cream or powder products. The larger brushes seem to work fine with cream based product but these smaller ones almost repel the product.I used the Maybelline colour tattoo, and it didn’t distribute the product well You have to be very firm when getting product on. With glitter it was much better. It held the product well and I was able to put it exactly where I wanted it without any fall onto my face.

Washing the brushes were a concern initially.
I always use the same product and method for washing all my hair and make up brushes. I briefly spoke about what I use in my Beauty Essentials Under £5 post. To get the eyeliner out of the brush, actually all of the brushes need a good scrub or the products just sit in the bristles. Once they looked clean I gave them a good rinse but soap still sits on top of the bristles. Its good I suppose because you can see they are not rinsed properly but i’m more then sure these are taking longer to wash and rinse then any of my other brushes..Once they are dried they feel like new. Don’t let the amount of washing put you off. All brushes need to be cleaned regularly. Its just one of the weekly chores.
so, overall… I liked the face brush in the contour set and I liked the shape brush for applying concealer. My foundation was streak free and contour was easily blended.I would use these brushes again. But. I’m really not in love with the eye set. I’m not finding them so amazing i’m going to abandon all my other make up brushes. They are not super expensive and would look pretty on a dressing table or Instagram shot.
You can buy the brushes in a set or individually from £4.99. But I worn you they sell out pretty quick online. Direct link for them in my Shop My Feed
